MindTopo reveals VLMs’ spatial reasoning abilities

Microsoft 2 months ago 22

MindTopo, a new benchmark from Microsoft Research, evaluates whether multimodal large language models can do 3D topological reasoning and planning, not just recognize topology in single images. It tests topology across 5 categories: continuity, separation, order, enclosure, and knots, with both reasoning and planning tasks. Results show a persistent gap where models perform better on static recognition than on interactive action sequences that must preserve or change the same topological relations.

Google debuts SL2T, an AI model that’s designed to understand sign language

SiliconANGLE 2 months ago 39 ● 2 sources

Google DeepMind launched SL2T, a multilingual sign-language-to-text AI model, to translate sign input into written text on consumer devices. SL2T is being debuted on Pixel 11 and it scored 70 on the FLEURS-ASL benchmark. It will be used in Gboard and Live Transcribe, enable sign-to-text dictation (initially ASL to English), and route pose data via MediaPipe Holistic to reduce the need to upload video.
