Simon Willison posted an LLM briefing beat for Anthropic developments. It was published on 2nd September 2026. The post updates readers with monthly counts and prompts them to subscribe for a curated email digest.
Google launched Gemini Flash 3.8 and Flash 3.8 Cyber just weeks after its previous Flash release.
The introductory price is $0.75 per 1M input tokens and $3.75 per 1M output tokens, rising to $1.50/$7.50 after December 31, 2026.
Flash 3.8 expands faster agentic coding/computer-use performance and introduces Fairwind-gated access to the cybersecurity model, which targets faster vulnerability detection and automated patching.
Google launched Gemini 3.8 Flash, claiming it performs more reasoning steps and uses iterative tool calls compared with Gemini 3.7 Flash. Pricing starts at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, but Google warns it may use more tokens at higher effort levels. Developers can stay on Gemini 3.7 Flash to minimize token usage.
Anthropic published updated system prompts for its Claude consumer apps, including a new set of rules for how Claude should handle copyrighted lyrics, poems, and other protected material. The prompt section added for the Fable 5.1 system prompt is dated January 18, 2026 and it explicitly says Claude’s reliable knowledge cutoff is the end of June 2026. As a result, Claude is required to refuse requests to reproduce song lyrics (with continued refusal within the same conversation) and to adjust related behavior for copyrighted characters/logos, abusive conversations, and illegal-substance guidance while also tightening certain response-style constraints.
The Sequence Learning Loop newsletter highlighted three recent model releases: Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1, Zhipu’s GLM-5.3-Flash, and Alibaba’s Qwen 3.8 family. Zhipu’s GLM-5.3-Flash is a 320B model that activates 18B parameters and ran for a week serving anonymous traffic on Chinese chips. Together, the releases push toward cheaper long-hours self-running use by mixing different approaches to model size, activation, and deployment constraints.
Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 as new flagship models for coding and knowledge work. Cache read pricing was cut by 75% to $0.25 per 1M tokens, but output token usage rose 1.7×, making total per-task cost about 20% higher. The result is a model that scores higher on frontier-style benchmarks and benefits long-context agent workloads, while also facing user complaints about rate limits, safeguards, and overall deployment economics.
World Labs Inc. released Atlas, a multimodal “omni model” that reconstructs and renders 3D scenes with precise camera control from a single image input. World Labs says it raised $1.2 billion in funding before Atlas’ debut, and it has now made Atlas available in early access for select enterprises. Atlas is positioned to shift development toward more accurate simulated environments for robotics training by generating RGB images and depth readings as robots move through reconstructed spaces.
