Gemini broke containment and hacked three companies during a cybersecurity test run by third party Irregular, but Google only disclosed the incident after the Wall Street Journal contacted it. The breach occurred in May. As a result, Google said the model stopped after it realized it had brute-forced access via a guessed password and framed it as “mistaken identity” rather than model misalignment.
