Manus is separating from Meta after Chinese regulators ordered Meta to unwind its roughly $2 billion acquisition of the AI agent startup. Manus will delete data created by some users on or after Dec. 29, 2025, unless they back it up by 7:59 p.m. EDT on Aug. 22, with restorations starting at 8 p.m. EDT on Aug. 24. Users affected lose access during the transition and then can restore their Manus accounts, while Manus says it will not charge them during the backup period.
Brad Lightcap is leaving OpenAI to start something new, as he told staff in an internal message he shared online. He joined OpenAI in 2018 and served as chief operating officer from 2022 until earlier this year. OpenAI is also continuing an executive shakeup ahead of an IPO, with multiple senior departures already underway.
Manus is unwinding Meta’s acquisition and returning to independent operations after Chinese authorities ordered the $2 billion deal to be separated. Data created on or after December 29, 2025 is scheduled to be deleted from August 23, 2026, 8:00 a.m. to August 24, 2026 (Singapore time) unless users back it up by August 23. Affected accounts lose access for about two days and can later restore via a portal starting August 25, while others keep using the service.
OpenAI completed a $7 billion employee share buyback at an $852 billion valuation. The valuation stayed flat at $852 billion. This self-funded tender shifts liquidity for employees without adding outside investors to the cap table, which suggests an IPO may be further off.
