Jenz lands €540K four months after hackathon win to streamline retail operations

Norwegian startup Jenz has picked up €540,000 in pre-seed funding from Antler and Ada Ventures, along with a NOK 1 million, or €92,000, startup grant from Innovation Norway. That is a tidy early stack of cash for a company that only emerged from a hackathon a few months ago, and it gives Jenz room to keep pushing its retail AI product before the wider rollout begins.

The company was founded by Remi Bjørnestad, Jo Schou Sandåker and Natnael Belete Seifo. Its pitch is straightforward: retail data is usually scattered across online stores, point-of-sale systems, inventory tools, accounting software and marketing platforms, and that mess makes automation hard. Jenz wants to pull those feeds into one structured layer so its AI agent can actually work with them instead of starting from scratch each time.

That system is meant to do the unglamorous jobs retailers spend too much time on. Jenz says it can analyse sales and inventory, help forecast demand, compare pricing and marketing choices, automate routine work, watch for operational issues and alert the right people when a decision is needed. The company says the point is to make AI act on trusted data, not on whatever a generic chatbot happens to remember from the last prompt.

Pilot customers started coming on board in late August, including online retailers and businesses with multiple physical stores. During that period, they assigned more than 3,000 tasks across more than 20 back-office systems. Jenz says some customers reported saving up to 100 hours in their first month, while one retailer said team capacity rose by 31 per cent after adopting the platform.

The startup’s path has moved quickly. It won the Norway AI Hackathon in Mandal in June, where Ada Ventures and Startuplab organised the event, and Ada later became its first investor. Jenz then moved from Kristiansand to Oslo and joined Antler’s residency programme. Now it is aiming beyond the Nordics, with a UK launch planned within the next nine months.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

Retail software is full of glossy dashboards and painfully manual work, so this is the kind of AI pitch that actually makes sense. The useful test isn’t whether it sounds clever; it’s whether it can sit inside messy systems and keep doing the boring stuff without making a scene. That’s where most AI demos go to die.
