Amsterdam startup Neno has closed a €6.6 million seed round to push its AI-native financial services platform beyond the Netherlands. The money is meant for product development, more accounting and tax services, and entry into additional European markets.

The round was led by AlleyCorp, the New York early-stage fund, with support from Motive Partners, Firstminute Capital and angel backers drawn from companies like Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal and Navro. That is a strong signal for a company still early in its life, especially one that says it launched in the first quarter of 2026 and has already picked up almost 200 customers.

Neno is built for SMEs that want accounting, tax and financial administration handled in one place. Its pitch is that Europe’s bookkeeping stack is too fragmented, with banks, payroll, accounting and tax all pulling in different directions while there are fewer accounting professionals to do the work. The company points to a market where more than half of Europe’s 26 million SMEs outsource these tasks, in an industry worth around €200 billion a year.

The core of the product is an AI-native workspace built around what Neno calls a real-time agentic general ledger. It pulls in data from business bank accounts, corporate cards, bill payments and receivables, then turns that into a single system of record for accountants. Neno says that helps automate reconciliation and VAT preparation, with tasks done up to five times faster, customers saving an average of eight hours of admin each month and around 20 per cent on annual accounting fees.

The company is careful about the message. It says it is not trying to replace accountants, but to make each one more productive. In Neno’s telling, one accountant can manage hundreds of customers instead of the traditional thirty, while still keeping the advisory side intact. The new funding will also back Neno Labs, which will focus on research and development around Ambient AI, and help the company prepare for further European expansion in 2027.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the right pitch at the right time: don’t replace accountants, just make the software do the boring bits before a human gets involved. That’s the only AI story in finance that makes practical sense anyway. Europe’s SME admin market is huge, messy, and very ready for someone to clean up the paperwork without pretending the spreadsheet was the problem all along.
