A new class action lawsuit questions whether Anthropic broke the law by misleading power users

Anthropic likes to say power users are central to its business, and it has acted like it. The company has even cut off popular apps such as OpenClaw to protect that group. But now some of those same customers are saying the company told them a different story when it came to paying for Claude.

An expanded class action lawsuit filed today says Anthropic deceptively advertised the limits of its Max subscription tier. The complaint comes from Claude subscribers who say they were led to believe a top-tier plan would deliver more than it actually did.

The lawsuit was filed by Monica Vaca and Kati Daffan, two attorneys who both previously worked at the Federal Trade Commission under Lina Khan. That makes this more than a routine customer gripe. It is a direct legal challenge from people who know exactly how regulators think about misleading marketing.

The case also lands at a delicate moment for AI companies that sell access through tiers, caps, and vague promises of priority. Anthropic has been willing to sacrifice some apps to keep power users happy. Now those users are saying the company oversold what its most expensive subscription could do. That’s the sort of disagreement that tends to get expensive fast.
