Albert Abraham Michelson was an American experimental physicist. He was the founder and first head of the physics departments of the Case School of Applied Science and the University of Chicago. He is known for measuring the speed of light and for the Michelson–Morley experiment. In 1907, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics and became the first American to win a Nobel Prize in a science.
