How we’re responding to The New York Times’ data demands in order to protect user privacy

OpenAI 1 year ago 6

OpenAI is resisting a court order requiring it to retain ChatGPT and API user data indefinitely, citing user privacy concerns. The New York Times and plaintiffs are seeking this data retention as part of ongoing litigation against the company. OpenAI says it will continue advocating for privacy protections while addressing legal requirements through its response to the court order.

Qwen3 Embedding: Advancing Text Embedding and Reranking Through Foundation Models

GitHub Pages 1 year ago 33

Alibaba's Qwen team released Qwen3 Embedding, a series of text embedding and reranking models built on the Qwen3 foundation model and open-sourced under Apache 2.0 license. The 8B embedding model ranks first on the MTEB multilingual leaderboard with a score of 70.58 as of June 5, 2025. The models support over 100 languages, flexible vector dimensions, and user-defined instructions for text retrieval and reranking tasks.

Disrupting malicious uses of AI: June 2025

OpenAI 1 year ago 38

Anthropic released a report documenting methods for detecting and preventing malicious applications of AI systems. The report includes specific case studies demonstrating their detection and prevention techniques across different threat categories. The findings inform how Anthropic responds to identified misuse and guides their approach to safety measures in AI deployment.

Model-Preserving Adaptive Rounding with YAQA

Together AI 1 year ago 1

Researchers introduced YAQA, a weight-only quantization method for large language models that directly minimizes KL divergence to the original model by using a Kronecker-factored Hessian approximation instead of layer-wise activation error minimization. YAQA reduced KL divergence by more than 30% across multiple models and quantizers compared to existing methods like LDLQ and GPTQ. The approach enables better model compression without requiring retraining and works with any hardware quantizer or memory-bound quantization method.
