GitHub Copilot is going local — but Microsoft won’t say what gets sent to the cloud

GitHub Copilot is adding automatic routing so coding tasks can run on local inference or be sent to cloud models. Microsoft says the rollout is expected by the end of October. Developers still won’t be able to confirm how much repository context or conversation history is sent to the cloud, and local inference won’t guarantee a fully offline session unless tool access is locked down.
