Ankit Gupta, a machine learning researcher and founder of Reverie Labs, has joined Y Combinator as a General Partner. Gupta co-founded Reverie Labs in YC's Winter 2018 batch, developing ML models for drug discovery before the company was acquired by Ginkgo Bioworks in 2024. He will mentor YC founders building AI companies, primarily from Cambridge, Massachusetts.
OpenAI is collaborating with the US Cyber Incident Investigation and Supervision Instrument (CAISI) and the UK Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI) to improve AI system security. The partnership focuses on developing standards and practices for safer AI development, with both institutions contributing expertise in AI safety evaluation and risk assessment. This coordination aims to establish shared frameworks for identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities across AI systems.
Google and Anthropic researchers developed VaultGemma, a 1 billion parameter language model trained with differential privacy using new scaling laws that model the compute-privacy-utility trade-offs. The model was trained with sequence-level differential privacy guarantees of (ε ≤ 2.0, δ ≤ 1.1e-10) and shows no detectable memorization of training data. The weights are open-sourced on Hugging Face and Kaggle, though current privately-trained models achieve utility comparable to non-private models from approximately 5 years ago.
