Anthropic’s IPO filing took center stage, and with it came the accounting that usually hides behind AI marketing. The company says revenue jumped 1,300% in the six months to June 30, 2026, to $16.3 billion, alongside steep but managed losses and a spotlight on customer concentration. The S-1 also makes a less comfortable point: Anthropic is on the hook for massive compute commitments—at least $475 billion in future cloud purchases, including $389.9 billion with partners like Amazon, Alphabet/Google, SpaceXAI, and Microsoft—even as customers can trim usage with limited notice. That tension is now shaping the narrative as much as the growth is, with Guardrails Alliance and Stop Funding Billionaires pushing back on founders’ control and news reports tying compute agreements with SpaceXAI to “up to $3.1 billion a month.”
