Google Photos has rolled out its AI virtual closet feature that turns photos of outfits into a digital wardrobe to more users. It is available to everyone in the U.S., Brazil, and India starting now on both iOS and Android. The rollout lets users filter wardrobe items by category and mix and match outfits, alongside other Google Photos AI-powered updates.
Google is launching its first Project Suncatcher experimental satellite, called MVP, to validate its orbital AI data center concept. The satellite will launch on October 1 and carries four custom Google TPU AI accelerators. The test shifts from planning toward on-orbit validation using about 1 kilowatt of solar power, with future constellation plans accelerated beyond the original 2027 timeline.
Google is testing a new Gemini feature called “Call for Me” that lets Gemini call businesses on a user’s behalf using their own phone number. It initially rolls out to Pixel 11 owners in the U.S. who pay for a Gemini subscription. The feature adds broader, real-time business-calling actions with live transcripts and lets users follow the call and take over at any time.
Google is rolling out new Chrome features to help with research across devices and enhance Gemini in the browser. The cross-device tab switching upgrade remembers where you scrolled, so you can resume the same spot after switching devices. This changes tab handoff to preserve scroll position instead of only transferring the webpage.
Google is launching an early experiment on Pixel 11 that lets Gemini place local business phone calls on a user’s behalf. The feature is positioned as an early experiment on Pixel 11. Users can approve and monitor a live transcript while Gemini handles dialing, automated menus, holding, and the conversation to complete tasks like reservations or rescheduling.
Google Cloud AI Research found that letting an agent evolve its own prompt/tool harness overfits the evolve-set benchmarks and often loses generalization on held-out benchmarks. Unregularized evolution reached 92.8 on the evolve set but only 40.3 on held-out benchmarks, while its RRSI regularized method reported 90.5 on the evolve set and 43.6 held-out using 2.42M vs 3.80M policy tokens per trial. The fix changes harness evolution by regularizing the search with edit budgeting, noise-aware acceptance, a leakage critic, and pruning, which improves out-of-distribution gains without reverting to memorization.
Google is preparing to launch an AI-focused satellite to test how its Tensor Processing Units perform in space as part of Project Suncatcher. The satellite is scheduled to launch on October 1st aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This will let Google gather measurements on radiation and thermal stress effects, shaping whether AI data centers could move into orbit.
Google DeepMind’s new chief said Gemini 4 is in refinement and aimed for an earlier release than the end of the year. The model is expected “much earlier” than that year-end target. As a result, Google plans to release an early post-training output first and keep iterating quickly based on the results.
