How AI tools can redefine universal design to increase accessibility
Google Research 5 months ago
Google introduced Natively Adaptive Interfaces (NAI), a framework using multimodal AI to create more accessible digital tools that dynamically adjust to individual user needs rather than following one-size-fits-all design. The framework targets 1.3 billion people with disabilities globally by incorporating voice, vision, and text capabilities through models like Gemini. Prototypes including StreetReaderAI for navigation and Grammar Laboratory for bilingual learning demonstrate how AI-driven accessibility tools can reduce interaction barriers and create personalized experiences.
