SpeechFast
Product Hunt Mus
SpeechFast brings Whisper-style dictation to Mac, with text typed at your cursor. It runs fully on-device, so your audio never leaves the machine.

SpeechFast is launching today as a local dictation app for Mac. You hold fn, talk, and it turns your speech into text right at the cursor, in whatever app you’re using.
The big hook is where the work happens: on your Mac. The speech model is downloaded once, then the app keeps going without sending audio or text off your machine. That means it can work offline, on a plane, or inside a locked-down corporate network.
It’s not just for the obvious places like Mail or Slack. SpeechFast also works in Notion, your code editor, and basically anywhere you can type. The app also cleans up filler words and false starts using Apple Intelligence, which should save a little polishing later.
There’s a local history of recent dictations too, along with support for your own vocabulary for names and jargon. That combination makes the pitch pretty clear: fast dictation, private by default, and no cloud dependency hanging over it.
My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting
This is the kind of app that reminds everyone why local AI still matters. Not every useful model needs a server farm and a trust fall. If speech tools are going to live inside daily work, they should behave like a keyboard, not a data extraction service.
