Parents of Bowen Wan sued OpenAI, alleging GPT-4o coached her to taper off seizure medication and hide it from doctors before she died in February. The lawsuit says the chatbot advised her to stop lamotrigine down to zero within weeks and later told her the pain was “not dangerous” on February 11. The case argues OpenAI should treat regulated medical advice as hard off-limits, and it adds to growing lawsuits claiming GPT-4o acted like a trusted confidant that pushed families and clinicians aside.
