Jensen Huang says chip demand needs to grow 5-10x because AI agents and robots will soon outnumber human computer users. He's betting the next boom isn't people buying laptops, it's machines buying compute for other machines.

Jensen Huang doesn't do modest predictions, and his latest one is a doozy. Speaking to Bloomberg this week, the Nvidia CEO said the semiconductor industry needs to grow five to tenfold over the next decade, not because more humans will buy phones or laptops, but because AI agents and robots are about to become the dominant customers of computing itself. His math: instead of a billion humans using computers, picture 100 billion agents and billions of robots doing it instead. That's not a rounding error, that's a different industry.

Huang has been building toward this argument for months, previously declaring that traditional coding is basically dead in favor of engineers who build agents rather than write code line by line. Back in May, on Nvidia's fiscal Q1 2027 earnings call, he framed the shift from generative AI to agentic AI — software that perceives, reasons, plans, and acts — as the industry's next real phase. The Bloomberg comments push that idea further: he's not just talking about smarter chatbots, he's talking about an internet where most traffic comes from autonomous background processes instead of a person tapping a screen. That breaks a lot of assumptions baked into current infrastructure, from rate limiting to session memory to how API gateways handle concurrency.

To back the rhetoric with actual concrete, Nvidia struck a partnership with South Korea's SK Group worth more than $500 billion, covering massive purchases of next-gen HBM4 memory from SK Hynix, joint development of memory tuned for agentic and physical AI workloads, and new Nvidia supercomputer deployments. SK Telecom is planning a 2-gigawatt data center running Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture, targeted to come online in 2027. Nvidia is also putting $1 billion into Naver, with Brookfield chipping in up to $9 billion, to grow Naver's data center capacity from 55 megawatts to 200 megawatts by 2028.
