Google is launching a one-stop Gemini agent for your work tasks

The Verge Emma Roth ● Covered by 2 sources

Google's building a Gemini agent that can do work across your apps and devices from one place. It’ll keep context in the cloud, so the same assistant follows you from Gmail to Slack to a phone.

Google is rolling out a “universal” Gemini agent for work, and the pitch is simple: one place to talk to it, then let it go do the chores somewhere else. The company announced it at its Gemini at Work event on Thursday.

The agent lives inside the Gemini Enterprise app. From there, users can chat with it, hand off tasks, and keep the whole exchange in a single interface instead of bouncing between tools.

Google says Gemini won’t be trapped inside Workspace, either. It can work directly in apps like Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, and it can also be reached from a phone, a desktop, the web, or third-party apps such as Slack and Microsoft 365.

The cloud part is the real point. Because the agent runs there, Google says it keeps the same context as it moves from one app or device to another. That’s the promise, anyway: less re-explaining, more letting the machine remember what was going on.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the usual enterprise AI pitch dressed up in a nicer jacket: one agent, every app, no friction. Handy, sure, but it also makes one vendor the front door to your working life, which is exactly the sort of convenience that sounds harmless right up until it isn’t. Cloud memory is a feature and a leash.
