Accelerating the magic cycle of research breakthroughs and real-world applications

Google Research 9 months ago 48 2 sources

Google announced three AI research breakthroughs at its Research@ event: Earth AI for geospatial modeling covering 2 billion people for flood forecasting, DeepSomatic for identifying cancer genetic variants published in Nature Biotechnology, and Quantum Echoes running 13,000 times faster than classical algorithms on the Willow chip. Google also released multiple AI tools including MedGemma with over 1 million downloads, AMIE for medical diagnosis, and an AI co-scientist system for research acceleration. These breakthroughs demonstrate integration of large language models with domain-specific data and reasoning to enable new scientific discoveries and real-world applications across health, environment, and quantum computing.
