StudentSim, a research system from Microsoft Research, trained personalized AI “student simulators” from de-identified learner records and evaluated them with StudentSimEval to improve AI tutors before real learners are involved. In chess, it reached behavioral fidelity of 0.5150 and guidance responsiveness of 0.9067. Using the simulator as a training signal, the reinforcement-learning tutor hit 90.5% accuracy versus 75.7% for the non-reinforcement baseline.
