Amazon, Microsoft, and Google have each launched enterprise agent platforms that share the same core architecture—runtime, memory, tool gateways, identity, observability, and governance—converging on a common design despite different naming. Each platform currently locks these components within a single cloud provider's ecosystem, mirroring how application development worked before Platform as a Service unified infrastructure through shared contracts. An open-source agent platform defining a vendor-neutral lifecycle contract could restore enterprise portability and negotiating power, similar to how Cloud Foundry principles outlived the platform itself through Kubernetes adoption.
