Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 comes in an Extreme version too

Qualcomm has rolled out the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and this time there’s an Extreme version beside it. Both are being pitched as flagship phone chips, but the gap between them sounds pretty narrow. The company says the Extreme model mainly gets better AI processing, video capture, and gaming performance.

Under the hood, the two chips are mostly the same. They’re both built on a 2nm process and share the same modem, display support, security features, GPS, and memory and storage support. That makes the split feel less like a new tier and more like a careful trim job.

Qualcomm isn’t giving the usual detailed core-by-core breakdown anymore, which makes the comparison a little less transparent than before. Still, the CPU information the company did share is identical for both chips: two big cores running at up to 5GHz, plus six performa…

That leaves the Extreme model in an awkward but telling place. It’s the chip for people who want the label, and maybe a little extra in a few specific areas, without changing the broader formula. Qualcomm has clearly decided that “more” now means slightly more, not a whole new shape.
