Perplexity’s Personal Computer turns Windows PCs into AI agents

Perplexity is taking its agentic Personal Computer tool off the Mac and onto the machines most offices actually use. The company launched a Mac version back in April, pitching it as a kind of general-purpose digital worker that can dig into local files and apps to handle tasks like drafting documents or updating spreadsheets. Now Windows gets the same treatment, and given how much enterprise work still happens on Windows machines, this feels like the version Perplexity actually wanted to ship first.

The Windows release doesn't stand alone. Perplexity already built integrations for Microsoft 365 apps and Teams back in May, and Personal Computer for Windows is meant to close the loop by working directly inside the Windows environment itself. Perplexity's own framing is telling: it describes enterprise work as often happening locally, on devices that sit "out of AI's reach." That's the gap this tool is built to fill.

In practice, Perplexity says users can now ask Computer to move across local files, Office 365, and the open web without switching contexts. The company's language leans into the reality of office work being messy and scattered across machines rather than neatly organized in the cloud, which is a fair description of how most people actually work, whether or not an AI agent is watching.

Access isn't cheap or wide open. Personal Computer for Windows is rolling out today, but only to subscribers on the Max and Enterprise Max tiers, which start at $200 a month. Perplexity is also making a point of reassurance here, stating that the tool doesn't train on company data and that it will always flag sensitive actions, like sending an email or deleting a file, before doing them.
