Meta is building a dedicated hardware device for Muse, its new AI agent. The device is called Muse Charm, and Mark Zuckerberg briefly showed it off at the end of Meta’s Connect presentation tonight.
The thing looks a bit like a chunky smartwatch that lost its strap. There’s a big screen on the front and a small lanyard so you can carry it around.
Meta also put a fingerprint sensor on the top right corner. Press it, and you can start speaking to the agent. The device appears to include a small camera too, along with at least three microphone holes on the front.
Zuckerberg said you don’t have to unlock a phone to use it, which is the whole point here: make the AI feel like a separate object, not just another app tucked away on a handset. That’s a cleaner pitch than “AI everywhere,” and a lot easier to demo on stage.
My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting
This is the kind of hardware move that makes sense when AI starts feeling like a feature and not a destination. Meta clearly wants Muse to be something you reach for, not something buried inside a phone menu like an awkward cousin at dinner. Closed hardware can be useful when the company wants total control, which is usually exactly when it also wants total applause.
