Gemini's Task Automation feature just went live for real on Samsung's new foldables, working across 40+ apps now. It's been in quiet beta for a while, so this is Google and Samsung finally saying 'ready for everyone.'
Samsung used its July Unpacked event to officially flip the switch on Gemini Task Automation, the AI agent feature that lets Gemini actually do things inside your apps instead of just answering questions about them. It's been running in beta for months, but the launch alongside the new foldable lineup marks its real debut, and Samsung is pairing it with a jump to more than 40 supported apps.
That expansion matters more than the headline might suggest. Task automation features live or die on coverage — a smart assistant that only works in three apps is a party trick, not a tool. My take
I've been skeptical of agentic AI demos because they tend to fall apart the moment you leave the scripted flow, and Samsung's history with Bixby doesn't exactly inspire confidence here. Forty apps sounds impressive until you remember that coverage without reliability is just a bigger surface area for things to go wrong; I'll believe this is useful when reviewers stop finding the edge cases within a week.
