Can a Cloud-Native Harness Make Agents Reliable Beyond the Desktop?
Latent Space Richard MacManus
Stacklok, founded by Kubernetes creators Craig McLuckie and Joe Beda, is building the open-source cloud-native agent harness Mecatl and related tooling to make AI coding agents more reliable when moved from desktop to cloud environments. Mecatl started as an open-source project in June and Stacklok raised a $17.5 million Series A in 2023. The approach shifts agent loops and session state into centrally managed cloud control systems rather than local JSONL files and tightly coupled desktop processes, and it wraps the open-source pieces with an “enterprise spine” control plane.
Why it matters
Kubernetes co-creators Craig McLuckie and Joe Beda aim to bring agent harnesses fully into the cloud.
