Jeff Dean is a senior computer scientist and software engineer at Google, currently serving as SVP of Research and Google DeepMind, overseeing Research and Health efforts. He joined Google in 1999 and became a central figure in building the company's large-scale computing infrastructure, co-designing systems such as MapReduce, BigTable, and Spanner. He later led Google Brain and became a key architect of Google's AI research strategy, helping drive work on deep learning and large-scale neural network systems including TensorFlow. In 2018 he became head of Google AI, and in 2023, following the merger of Google Brain and DeepMind into Google DeepMind, he was named Google's Chief Scientist.
