AI’s throughline today ran straight from model benchmarks to metal: getting machines to reason about the physical world, then proving they’ll behave when the world stops cooperating. Google’s Gemini 4 Argon landed for robotics with a focus on physical-reasoning workflows, scoring 87% on the Embodied Reasoning (ERQA) benchmark using pure reasoning—an attempt to cover control, real-to-sim calibration, and code generation with one system instead of a patchwork. That push toward general-purpose physical intelligence matched a parallel, more cautious effort from Laplace Intelligence, which uses Nvidia’s Cosmos as a post-trained foundation to automate red-teaming in realistic simulation. Developers can modify scenarios in real time with language prompts, aiming to generate corner cases continuously before deployment—and, crucially, to shift safety evidence toward what customers, insurers, and regulators can track over time.
