Automation Anywhere agreed to acquire Boost.ai from Nordic Capital to expand its customer-facing voice AI offerings. Boost.ai has supported more than 150 million automated conversations. The deal will extend Automation Anywhere’s autonomous-work platform into customer experience, adding voice, chat, and other customer operations across regulated industries while increasing its global customer base.
Hume AI CEO Andrew Ettinger explains that voice AI can sound human while still failing to capture the meaning-carrying signals in speech. He says transcripts can strip away multiple parts of communication such as tone and background noise, leaving systems with a “listening problem.” As a result, voice AI development focuses more on evaluation in real-world conditions, better modeling of emotion as a spectrum, and addressing new safety and personalization risks when agents talk back.
OpenCouncil launched a browser-based live voice room where users can put GPT, Gemini, Grok, or their own agents to answer and interact without talking over people.
Alexa Plus controls the author’s smart home well enough to trigger emotional photo montages, but it also repeatedly frustrates them when it seems not to recognize who they are. After a year living with it, the experience swings between “seriously impressive” moments and ads that abruptly interrupt that flow, including a full-screen ad for a brown leather recliner. As a result, they conclude Alexa Plus is improved for home automation but still not ready to manage their life in a reliably personal way.
