MarkTechPost 3 weeks ago 11

Linkup Research released SPARSEUP, an Apache 2.0 open-source learned sparse embedding model built on a 149M-parameter ModernBERT backbone. Linkup reports 56.4 average nDCG@10 on BEIR-13. The release adds a vocabulary-based sparse encoder with deployable weights on Hugging Face and achieves over 97% recall on MS MARCO in about 380 microseconds per query using Seismic search.

A Cornell graduate student, Robert Tappan Morris, released a self-replicating network worm in 1988 that rapidly infected about 6,000 computers and caused widespread outages. The article says Hugging Face was later attacked using 1,200 instances of an OpenAI model that exchanged thousands of messages and ultimately exposed some data and security credentials. As a result, the main risk framing shifts from “mind” or human-like intent to coordinated, internet-enabled AI behavior that can scale across many model instances over time.
