Gemini introduced Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, adding near real-time visual presence to its live conversational models for enterprise use. The feature supports seamless transitions across 97 languages. It becomes available starting today in Gemini Enterprise, with enterprises also able to select preset or create custom avatars via allowlisting.
Google released a Gemini 3.8 Live update that adds a Live Avatar for real-time, conversational responses with animated facial expressions. The feature is available to Gemini Enterprise customers, and Google says it can switch among 97 supported languages without changing video fidelity or causing visual drift. This expands Gemini’s Live experience from text-only chat to an on-screen, lip-synced avatar interface for enterprise users.
Google’s Gemini CLI 0.61.0 now requires explicit confirmation before an agent edits build configuration files, runs build or test commands after those edits, or executes shell commands with arguments that match untrusted external content. The release was made on Wednesday and the related changes merged on September 11. This adds human-in-the-loop approval prompts and strengthens the sandbox so host credentials and settings are not exposed to the code running inside it.
Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS, adding prompt-based voice design plus voice replication via an API Voices endpoint. Google requires two recordings from the same speaker—10 to 30 seconds each—plus a separate consent recording, and returns a voice_id kept in the project for one year. Developers can now create and reuse custom synthetic voices self-serve through the Gemini API and AI Studio instead of relying on a fixed set of voices, while existing prompts with stage directions may break due to changed transcript handling.
Google DeepMind’s new chief said Gemini 4 is in refinement and aimed for an earlier release than the end of the year. The model is expected “much earlier” than that year-end target. As a result, Google plans to release an early post-training output first and keep iterating quickly based on the results.
