Mistral released Voxtral, open-source speech understanding models available in two sizes (24B and 3B variants) that transcribe audio and answer questions about it across multiple languages. The API version costs less than half the price of comparable services like OpenAI Whisper and ElevenLabs Scribe, with pricing starting at $0.001 per minute. Organizations can now deploy production-grade voice interfaces locally, on-premises, or through the cloud without relying on proprietary systems.
