Internet Infrastructure Services Empower Deepfake Abuse, New Study Finds

A study found that deepfake-enabled non-consensual intimate imagery has become easier to produce and has been widely distributed using mainstream web infrastructure providers. In a six-week Feb–Mar period, the researchers identified 400 URLs and narrowed them to 88 sites actively hosting the imagery, with five dominant infrastructure providers including Cloudflare, Google, Namecheap, WordPress, and Proton. The findings argue that these providers should change by cutting off services to identified sites and improving moderation and reporting to stop proliferation.
