His scanner wouldn’t work on Linux — so he let Claude study the Windows driver

Christian Schaller got a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i scanner and a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon camera working on Linux by using Claude Code to compare Linux driver behavior against Windows reference runs. The scanner’s full-resolution scan finished in 34.6 seconds with his driver versus 54.4 seconds with the upstream SANE version at 3,600 dpi. He released the method as an open-source hw-harness toolkit and plans to switch to upstream SANE instead of maintaining a competing driver.
