Zeit AI raises €5M to give Europe’s mid-market its own data engineer

Zeit AI has raised €5 million to push its autonomous data engineering platform deeper into Europe’s mid-market. The company is aiming at businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets but still can’t justify a full internal data engineering team. That gap is where a lot of reporting pain lives, and where a lot of messy work gets parked.

Founded in 2024 by Palantir alumni Leopold von Waldthausen and Marvin Bornstein, the startup builds ZeitMind, an AI agent that connects business systems, cleans the data and turns it into analytics-ready applications. The pitch is simple enough to understand and hard enough to do: let software handle the plumbing that usually eats time, budget and patience.

ZeitMind connects ERP and CRM systems along with more than 600 other sources. The company says the platform can make results traceable back to individual transactions, and that it runs in German data centres. That mix matters for customers that need something both practical and auditable, not just another shiny dashboard with uncertain numbers underneath.

The round brought in Y Combinator, the University of Oxford’s Seed Fund, Sequoia Capital Scout Fund, ACE Ventures and Hasso Plattner VC. Angel backers included Christian Lindner, Mario Götze, Charlie Songhurst, Martin Schoeller and Helsing CTO Robert Fink. Zeit AI says it will use the new money to expand among mid-sized businesses and hire more engineers to help with deployment.

Von Waldthausen’s view is that mid-sized companies increasingly need data engineering capabilities but can’t access specialised talent at an affordable cost. Zeit AI is betting that those companies want the result, not the team org chart. No surprise there. Software that promises “no additional headcount” tends to get attention when budgets are tight and spreadsheets are already winning the war.
