VentureBeat names Rob Strechay as its first Lead Analyst, expanding its enterprise AI research push

VentureBeat has brought on Rob Strechay as its first Lead Analyst, and the title matters. This isn’t a broad editorial hire; it’s the start of a more specialized research push aimed at the people making enterprise AI calls from the director level up through CIOs and CTOs.

Strechay comes from theCUBE Research, where he was managing director and principal analyst. VentureBeat says he’s also a founding analyst of VentureBeat Research, which is meant to go beyond news and into the practical questions enterprise teams keep hitting once the demos are over.

Those questions are getting more specific. Companies moving from generative AI experiments to production want help figuring out multi-vendor setups, weak spots in agentic pipelines, and why infrastructure budgets keep getting chewed up by underused compute. VentureBeat is positioning this new research arm around those headaches rather than around generic AI cheerleading.

Strechay brings nearly three decades across startups, AWS, enterprise infrastructure, and analyst roles. VentureBeat says he previously worked as an executive at startups including Zerto, joined Amazon Web Services to help build a new analytics service, and later held roles at Enterprise Strategy Group and theCUBE Research and SiliconANGLE.

He’s already been doing work for VentureBeat. In May, he published an analysis of enterprise GPU utilization, looking at wasted compute inside enterprise AI stacks, and he reviewed the company’s AI Infrastructure & Compute survey before it went out. His initial focus will include cloud infrastructure, advanced data infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps orchestration and observability, plus the overlap between AI and enterprise security.

The main public-facing vehicle for the expansion will be VB In Conversation, a video interview series Strechay will host on VentureBeat and YouTube. The pitch is simple: less airy industry talk, more architectural detail, deployment pain, and the gritty back-end reality that decides whether enterprise AI actually works in production.
