Redesigning source control at Anthropic
Anthropic ● Covered by 2 sources
Anthropic reported that it rebuilt its developer source control for Claude-driven software work by replacing git with an in-house system called Scion. In May 2026 it averaged about 2,500 merged code changes per day, and by September it exceeded 30,000 per day. As a result, Anthropic migrated its monorepo in five months and shifted build, CI, and source-control operations toward an always-online, horizontally scalable client-server model.
Why it matters
Anthropic says it was bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human scale, so it built an in-house version control system called Scion. The newsletter highlights a full monorepo migration from git in five months, plus tooling like code review and search.
