OpenCode 2.0
opencode notes ● Covered by 3 sources
OpenCode 2.0 overhauls how its coding agent runs tools and manages sessions, including making the local service auto-start and updating the API and client packages. The update adds 80+ internal plugins that keep the Plugin API maintained and brings MCP servers into Code Mode by default. As a result, users and scripts get simpler local orchestration, more capable agent-to-tool workflows, and breaking changes for 1.0 plugins and the server/API structure when upgrading.
Why it matters
OpenCode 2.0 recasts the coding agent around a shared local service, a redesigned API and SDK, and a JavaScript code mode that composes MCP and OpenAPI tools into scripts. It also adds background tasks and subagents, expands the plugin system, and includes breaking changes for 1.0 plugins and the server API.
