OpenAI lets organizations connect their own AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage to an OpenAI project so external storage can be registered and validated for safer automation. The PSP policy applies per project and covers all API traffic in that project, with one setup step targeting a 30-day object lifecycle expiration. After setup, eligible requests must be sent through a separate project when they should use Zero Data Retention without PSP, and PSP automatically governs all project API calls once enabled.
Why it matters
Because more autonomy increases risk, OpenAI pairs Dots with approval gates and Private Safety Processing. The newsletter says this enables automated safety review without creating a new path for OpenAI personnel to read protected customer content.
