Microsoft VP: SaaS isn’t dying. It’s entering its next act and AI agents are the catalyst

A Microsoft VP said companies are shifting from AI pilots to deployments but often stall when people must still manually connect systems via the “toggle tax.” The VP cited Harvard Business Review research that employees switch between applications about 1,200 times per day, consuming nearly 9% of the workweek in context switching. SaaS will be redesigned to provide agents with business context and governance so people do less system stitching and more decision-making.

Why it matters

The "toggle tax" is costing enterprises more than time, but the SaaS crash never came. AI agents are finally eliminating the human middleware holding workflows together.
