I expect rapid progress but not towards general superintelligence
Interconnects Nathan Lambert
Researchers expect rapid acceleration in AI infrastructure and engineering capabilities that makes model experimentation easier, but says this won’t fundamentally change how models work. They point to saving 10–30% on inference cost after a model is announced at a certain price point. The result is more AI-assisted optimization, lower effective cost of model intelligence, and faster diffusion into the economy alongside greater demand for agentic models.
Why it matters
I’ve often been surprised when I hear from top researchers in industry that they think AI will be better than them at their job in a few years, and I didn’t really know why I doubted it.
