Osavul, a startup born after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has raised €8.5 million in fresh funding to push its threat-detection software beyond government and defence work.
The Series A was led by 33N Ventures, with Balnord, G+D Ventures and existing backer 42CAP also in the round. With this raise, Osavul says it has taken in about €12 million in total.
The company’s AI platform sifts through large volumes of online and open-source material to spot hostile activity before it turns into an attack. That includes cyber threats, disinformation campaigns and physical threats. NATO already uses the technology, alongside defence enterprises and governments, to monitor, analyse and interpret information from public and commercially available data sources.
Osavul was founded by Ukrainians Dmytro Plieshakov and Dmytro Bilash, who built it in response to the war. The funding is meant to help the company grow enterprise customers and deepen its work with governments and defence. Plieshakov argues the problem has moved far beyond ministries and intelligence agencies; energy, airports, ports, transport and finance are now exposed too. Bilash says the company is now serving customers worldwide from Luxembourg, with demand strongest in places dealing with conflict and instability.
My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting
This is the kind of startup story Europe should actually be funding: defence-adjacent, practical, and not pretending every AI company is one prompt away from saving civilization. The real tell is that NATO is already using it. That’s not hype; that’s procurement with teeth.
