Grok is now an AI ‘teammate’ you can assign work

The Verge Jess Weatherbed Covered by 4 sources

Grok Bot is an always-on AI agent that can log into your apps and do tasks for you. That’s handy, but it also means handing an AI your passwords and trust.

SpaceXAI has turned Grok into something closer to a co-worker than a chatbot. The new Grok Bot service is meant to sit there all the time, using its own cloud computer to handle multi-step work in the apps, tools, and websites you already use.

The pitch is simple: give it a job, let it sign in, and come back when it’s done. If the task runs into something sensitive or needs a human decision, the bot is supposed to stop and wait for approval. That makes it sound a lot less like a tool you query and more like a junior employee you supervise from afar.

There’s a catch, of course. To do the work, Grok Bot needs access to your online accounts. That’s the tradeoff baked into the whole idea, and it’s the sort of tradeoff that turns AI convenience into a security conversation very quickly.

This is also Musk’s AI company trying to keep pace with the business-focused offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic, both of which have pushed AI deeper into workplace use. The naming is messy — Grok Bot, or Bots, depending on how SpaceXAI is counting today — but the direction is clear: AI companies want their systems not just answering questions, but doing the chores.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the part of AI that actually matters, and also the part everyone should treat with the most suspicion. Letting a model sign into your accounts is not productivity magic; it’s delegation with a security bill attached. The industry keeps selling “teammates” because “temporary access to your entire work life” sounds a lot worse on a banner ad.
