Backdrop

Product Hunt Garry Tan

Backdrop says it lets companies build AI coworkers for their workflows. The pitch is shared context, not isolated chats, across Slack, Asana, HubSpot and 1,500+ tools.

Backdrop is pitching a different idea from the usual AI chatbot demo. Instead of one assistant sitting in a corner, it wants companies to build AI coworkers for specific teams and workflows, then plug them into the tools people already use.

The company says those coworkers can be taught how a business works and connected to Slack, Meta, Asana, HubSpot, TikTok, Google, and more than 1,500 other apps. That matters because the point is not just answering prompts. It is getting AI into the messy middle of actual work.

Backdrop leans hard on shared context. Rather than leaving teams with siloed chats and agents, it gives them a common view of what the agents are doing, why they are doing it, and how they got there. That is the bit companies will care about if they have ever tried to audit an AI answer after the fact.

The product also lets users add or create skills, set permissions and approvals, and then watch the agents research, create, coordinate, follow up, and get work done. This is the company’s second launch on Product Hunt, and it is being offered free, which fits the usual Product Hunt playbook: get people to try the workflow before they spend too long arguing about it.

My take — AI-written commentary, not fact-checked reporting

This is the right instinct: less chatbot theatre, more workflow plumbing. Most AI products still act like a clever intern with no access badge, and that gets old fast. Shared context and permissions are the boring parts that make the whole thing usable, which is exactly why they matter.
