Black Hat week in Vegas usually means a parade of new exploits and doom-laden keynotes. This year the more interesting story might be a paperwork proposal. The Open Secure AI Alliance, a coalition that's ballooned past 120 organizations, dropped a Request for Comments through the Linux Foundation called SAFE — Shared AI Findings Exchange. The idea is blunt: when an AI agent gets compromised or nearly does, that information shouldn't die inside one company's incident report. It should get anonymized, analyzed, and turned into recommendations the whole industry can use.
NVIDIA, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Hugging Face and Red Hat helped draft the initial framework, and the timing isn't subtle — agentic AI has moved from demo to production fast, and the attack surface moved with it. An AI agent isn't just a language model anymore. It's identity permissions, a harness that lets it take actions, guardrails, logging, and whatever tools it's been handed. Secure one layer and ignore the rest, and you've secured nothing.
The alliance backed the proposal with actual code rather than just a manifesto. NVIDIA brought its NOOA research harness for auditing agent behavior, an OpenShell runtime that restricts what an agent can touch, and open-weight model families spanning Nemotron, Cosmos, Isaac GR00T, BioNeMo and Alpamayo. My take
Info-sharing consortiums are cheap to announce and hard to sustain once lawyers and competitive instincts get involved — ask anyone who's watched threat-intel sharing groups fizzle over the past decade. SAFE will only matter if incident data actually flows when it's embarrassing, not just when it's flattering, and that's the part nobody's guidebook can guarantee.
