AdventHealth advances whole-person care with OpenAI

AdventHealth, one of the larger nonprofit health systems in the US, says it's now using ChatGPT for Healthcare to take some of the grunt work off its staff's plates. The pitch is simple: hospitals drown in administrative tasks, and every hour spent on paperwork is an hour not spent with a patient.

The system frames this as part of a "whole-person care" push, OpenAI's blog post doesn't get into granular detail about which specific workflows are changing, but the general idea tracks with what a lot of health systems have been quietly testing over the past year or so. Clinicians and administrative teams lean on AI tools to draft documentation, sort through routine correspondence, and handle the repetitive back-office tasks that eat into clinical time without adding much value.

What's notable here isn't the technology itself. ChatGPT variants tailored for healthcare have been floating around for a while now, and plenty of hospital systems have dabbled with similar tools from OpenAI, Microsoft, and others. What's notable is the scale of the adopter. AdventHealth operates dozens of hospitals and hundreds of care sites across several states, so a rollout like this, if it sticks, becomes a real-world test of whether AI-assisted admin work actually holds up under the messiness of a large, multi-site health system.

And that's really the open question. Pilot programs and demos are one thing. Getting thousands of clinicians and support staff across a sprawling organization to actually change how they work, day in and day out, is another. OpenAI's announcement reads more like an early progress update than a victory lap, which suggests even AdventHealth is treating this as a work in progress rather than a finished transformation.
