Richard Milhous Nixon was an American politician who served as the 37th president of the United States from 1969 until his resignation in 1974. Before the presidency, he represented California in both houses of the U.S. Congress and served as the 36th vice president under Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. He is known for reducing U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, pursuing détente with the Soviet Union and China, and overseeing the period that included the Apollo 11 Moon landing and the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
