Company www.google.com Covered in 600 stories + Follow ✴ AI Graph LinkedIn

Google is actively developing and deploying AI capabilities across products and research, including announcements such as AlphaGenome Atlas for evaluating one-base changes in the human genome and updates tied to Gemini 3.8 Flash. It has also been involved in AI safety and governance discussions, where Google employees posted concerns that advanced AI could pose catastrophic human risk without regulation or slower “pacing.” In parallel, Google has focused on AI infrastructure expansion, including a large investment in Finland’s Loviisa nuclear power output to support new data centers, and it has shipped consumer-facing AI features such as an experimental image-generation tool in Google Earth and a live NFL feed in mobile Search.

Price moves around recent events

Correlation does not establish causation. Market moves have many simultaneous causes — macro news, sector rotation, earnings and unrelated company events — and the timing of our daily closes may not align with when an event actually reached the market (pre-announcements, leaks, after-hours trading). Moves are shown next to the S&P 500 (SPY) over the same window so market-wide swings are visible, not hidden. None of this is investment advice.

The TLDRocket take Q2 2026 · written 5 Aug 2026

Google just posted back-to-back misses: EPS of 2.85 against a 2.98 estimate this quarter, following a 2.62-vs-2.71 miss the quarter before. That breaks a streak — Q4 2025 beat by 4.2% and Q3 2025 blew past estimates by 29.4%. No revenue or segment detail here, so it's hard to say whether this is Search softness, cloud capex, or something else; the EPS table alone doesn't tell you where the money went.

What we do know from recent coverage is that Google's AI push keeps generating headlines for the wrong reasons alongside real shipping. Gemini remains the company's most-covered product by far (51 stories, with six separate Gemini variants — 3.5 Flash, 3.6 Flash, 3 Pro and others — tracked as distinct efforts), and the Chrome team's AI-agent bug hunt that fixed over a thousand vulnerabilities, including a 13-year-old sandbox escape, is a genuine engineering win. But the Nano Banana 2 satellite-imagery feature got pulled within 48 hours after BBC journalists faked landmark images, and AI Overviews continues to draw fire from publishers and Reddit's CEO over roughly halved referral traffic — the kind of self-inflicted reputational drag that doesn't show up in an EPS line but erodes trust in the products driving the numbers.

On the compute side, Google is a named counterparty in SpaceX's tripled AI revenue ($2.6 billion), which points to Google buying capacity outside its own data centers — worth watching given how capital-intensive the AI buildout has become industry-wide. Two misses don't make a trend, but paired with the safety stumbles this is a company shipping fast and occasionally tripping over its own guardrails; the next quarter's numbers will say more than this one does about whether that's costing anything financially.
