Introducing DOI: the Digital Object Identifier to Datasets and Models

Hugging Face now allows users to generate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for models and datasets directly from the Hub, enabling permanent citations similar to those used for academic papers. Users can create DOIs through repo settings, and Hugging Face has partnered with DataCite to assign and manage these identifiers, with datasets and models receiving permanent links that never expire. Models and datasets with DOIs become persistent resources that can only be deleted by filing a support request, and DOI versions can be updated when new versions are released.
