The biggest throughline today is Moonshot AI doubling down on weight openness—this time with a flagship model it’s positioning as practical, not just publishable. Moonshot’s new Kim K3.1 Pro is a post-trained upgrade of its July Kim K3, now at 3T parameters, and it’s already paired with a concrete score: 92.7% on BenchCAD, a 3D model coding benchmark. The company claims some tasks come out ahead of Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra, but the more telling detail is what Moonshot plans to do with those results: push further into 3D modeling and animation, then open the weights by Nov. 4. The “post-trained” framing matters too—it’s a reminder that raw scale isn’t the only lever; shaping behavior after pretraining can move specific product goals.
